LaTeX Table Generator

Generate LaTeX tables from editable cells or pasted CSV and spreadsheet data. Set alignment, escape text, and copy tabular or booktabs code locally.

Built in your browser · No data upload

Build your table

Text mode escapes special characters. Toggle a cell to Math for expressions such as x_i, without $ delimiters. Resizing smaller removes cells outside the new grid.

Paste spreadsheet data

Paste cells copied from a spreadsheet, or comma-separated CSV. Import replaces the grid; shorter rows are padded with empty cells. Table imports start in Text mode.

Layout preview

HTML layout guide, not a TeX compilation. Math cells show source text; fonts, spacing and line wrapping can differ in your document.

MethodTime (ms)Error (%)
Baseline423.2
Variant A312.8

Booktabs output needs \usepackage{booktabs} in the document preamble. It uses horizontal rules without vertical borders.

Download contains a snippet, not a complete document. Copy it inside your document body and add any listed packages to the preamble. Data stays in this tab and is not saved after reload.

Table builder

LaTeX table generator for spreadsheet data

Use this LaTeX table generator to turn editable cells into tabular code. Paste a small dataset, set column alignment, and choose booktabs, grid or plain rules. The output stays editable in your document. The accompanying HTML preview checks the data layout; it is not a TeX compilation or an exact image of the final typesetting.

Prepare your data

What the LaTeX table generator handles

The useful part is not just inserting separators: text, math and document structure need different handling.

Spreadsheet paste and CSV import

Copy a rectangular range from Excel, Sheets or WPS and select tabs as the separator. For comma-separated data, select CSV. Quoted fields can contain delimiters, and shorter rows are padded with empty cells. Import replaces the existing grid and resets cells to Text mode.

Explicit text and math cells

Text mode escapes reserved characters so a label such as Gain (%) does not comment out the rest of a row. Switch individual cells to Math for expressions such as x_i. These entries are wrapped in dollar signs automatically; type the expression without its delimiters.

Local code you can inspect

The LaTeX table generator runs in this browser tab and does not upload or persist the dataset. Copy the output or download the snippet before reloading. Unlike the matrix converter, this tool does not add table data to recent-formula history or a share URL.

Workflow

How to use the LaTeX table generator

Work through one sample row before importing a larger table.

1

Build or import the grid

Choose up to 30 rows and 12 columns. Enter cells manually or paste data. The row count includes the header. After import, verify the first and last rows so that a mistaken delimiter does not silently change your intended columns.

2

Choose formatting and cell modes

Set each column to left, center or right alignment. Enable the header option if your first row contains labels. Select booktabs for horizontal rules or grid for boxed cells. Math mode is per cell, so text labels and equations can share a row.

3

Copy into your document

Keep the table wrapper for a floating table with an optional caption and label. Turn it off for bare tabular code. Load booktabs in the preamble when requested; paste the snippet inside the document body and compile there to verify spacing.

Document settings

What each output option changes

The LaTeX table generator keeps layout choices separate from data. Changing alignment does not reformat numbers or calculate results.

Rules and header separator

booktabs / grid / plain

Booktabs uses top and bottom rules, plus a middle rule after the header when data rows exist. Grid draws borders between all rows and columns. Plain adds no rules. The header option does not automatically make text bold.

Column alignment

l / c / r

Right alignment is useful for numeric columns but does not align decimal points. Standard l, c and r columns do not wrap long text to a fixed width; edit the exported code if you need p{width}, tabularx or siunitx.

Caption and reference label

Optional table wrapper

The label is emitted after a nonempty caption so it refers to the table counter. Use an identifier such as tab:results, then reference it with \ref{tab:results}. Compile the document again if the reference remains unresolved.

Worked examples and checks

A literal percent sign versus a formula

Enter Gain (%) in Text mode and x_i in a neighboring Math cell. The output below protects the percent sign and wraps only the expression in math delimiters. Leaving x_i in Text mode instead produces a literal underscore.

Gain (\%) & $x_i$ \\

A compact comparison table

This original sample uses right-aligned numeric columns and a caption before its label. The package comment is an instruction: put the actual usepackage command in your preamble, not next to tabular inside the document body.

% Preamble: \usepackage{booktabs}
\begin{table}[htbp]
\centering
\caption{Timing comparison}
\label{tab:timing}
\begin{tabular}{lrr}
\toprule
Method & Time (ms) & Error (\%) \\
\midrule
Baseline & 42 & 3.2 \\
Variant A & 31 & 2.8 \\
\bottomrule
\end{tabular}
\end{table}
Questions

LaTeX table generator FAQ

Check these boundaries before using the generated snippet in a paper.

Why does the preview differ from my PDF?

The preview is an HTML layout guide. It shows source text for math cells and cannot reproduce TeX fonts, float placement, page width or package settings. Compile the exported code in your document for the final appearance.

What causes an extra alignment tab error?

A manually edited row may contain too many unescaped ampersands for the column specification. Generated Text cells escape literal ampersands. Check any edits made after export, and use Math mode only for a single expression per cell.

Why is toprule undefined?

The booktabs commands require \usepackage{booktabs} in the preamble. If your template cannot load that package, choose grid or plain output, which uses the standard tabular environment.

Can the LaTeX table generator merge cells?

Not in this version. It does not generate multicolumn, multirow or longtable structures. Export the rectangular table as a starting point and edit those advanced layouts in your document.

Does the LaTeX table generator support Chinese text?

The generator preserves Unicode, but your TeX engine and fonts must support it. A Chinese document typically needs suitable CJK configuration, such as ctex. Text escaping alone cannot install fonts or choose the correct engine.
